Friday Night Devotional by David Chow, 2/26/16
Have you ever been on a boat hit by heavy waves, or in a car during a blizzard where the wind pushed the vehicle side to side? I have been in both situations and it is as if I had no control of my life whatsoever. One moment I was being pushed to the right and the next pulled to the left. During both situations I attempted to do whatever I could to be planted to the ground, to be stable and to not sway.
It is easy to feel this way when it comes to hot topics. For example, one day Facebook is filled with posts and links to blogs which take a firm stance that In-N-Out is the absolute king in fast food – you initially agree. But in a matter of minutes social media is flooded with bursts of opposition and counter arguments claiming Chick-Fil-A is supreme – you shrug off your initial allegiance in favor for the latter. But then the counter arguments to the counter arguments sway you again.
While fast food is a silly example and not the point of this devotional, the pattern of allowing the world to sway our thinking is the main point and it is far more serious than we often make it. When it comes to living out the Christian faith, the believer seeks to be grounded, unwavering, and stable in the Word of God, especially in the midst of crafty arguments and political agendas. This is why GOC is having a packed full weekend on the Christian and Contemporary issues, so that, as Ephesians 4:14 says, “we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.”
What does the Bible say about the political process, homosexuality, and social media use? How does the Bible inform our worldview? Well, if you’re reading this, you’re in the right place to find out! Join us this weekend as we study God’s Word to find out.
